IDS is celebrating its 40 year anniversary with a conference which aims to Reinvent Development Research. As well as reflecting back, IDS will be looking at the key issues facing our globe in the next 40 years and asking, how can we ensure that development research continues to shape thinking and action to tackle these challenges. As well as celebrating the achievements of IDS, the central aim is to encourage the development research community to think ahead and to innovate.
More than 100 participants from all over the world, including key development thinkers, policymakers and practitioners as well as IDS researchers, alumni and partners, will debate these issues. Participants will be invited to help formulate an exciting, forward looking agenda for development research.
Speakers include: Noeleen Heyzer, Director, UNIFEM; Mike Edwards, Ford Foundation; Wolfgang Sachs, Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy; Mahmood Mamdani, Columbia University (tbc); Thandika Mkandawire, UNRISD (tbc); and Nobel Prize winner Wangari Mathai, Green Belt Movement, Kenya (tbc).
Participation in the conference is by invitation only.
For an overview of the various types of activity at the conference, see the Anniversary homepage.
